Majolica
Majolica is, in its most basic definition, a glazed earthenware ceramic. Its history can be traced to the Moors in Spain (Majorca) through Italy and finally into 19th century England, where the art form was revived by Herbert Minton. Majolica is identified by, and highly-noted for, its brilliant, bold coloration, whimsical shapes and high-relief sculpture. An artist's mastery of glaze technique as well as the glaze composition utilized were the factors that distinguished majolica pieces. Alhambra Antiques specializes in French majolica, also known as barbotine, representing all of the major French factories. We hope you enjoy our majolica collection.
