Italian Antique Bronze "Mercury" Sculpture After Giambologna

Origin: Italy Circa: 1880

"Mercury with Caduceus" Bronze sculpture (measuring 61 inches high) was originally executed by Gian Bologna (1524 - 1608) circa 1560 and is currently at the National Gallery in Florence, Italy. This recasting dates from the XIX century and it comes from the workshop of celebrated bronze founder, Benedetto Boschetti. Mr. Boschetti established his shop in Rome at Via Condotti #74 around 1820 and he remained active until his death in 1870. The Boschetti workshop was known for exceptional quality of copies, in bronze and marble, of classical antiquity sculptures in museums, as well as mosaic pieces. Stamped at base: B. Boschetti, Roma.
