Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Gerry Stecca grew up in surroundings that respected
both the arts and sciences. After an initial educational foray into the sciences,
Gerry changed direction, earning his B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of
California, La Jolla. In 1989 Gerry moved to Miami where he has continued to
reside and work.
A painter for most of his life, Gerry’s interests broadened from two dimensional
painting and murals into the realm of sculptural installations. His sculptural work
applies the principles of pattern and repetition, culminating with work done with
clothespins.
Gerry has also significant experience in creating striking visual displays and space
planning for retail clients and government institutions.
His creative process happens slightly out of order, encountering first the materials
that inspire the concept, and eventually developing the piece - only the completed
piece eventually explains itself. His work is at times site specific, but often free
form and adaptable to different spaces.
Mr. Stecca’s work has been exhibited in numerous public exhibitions including the
Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit, Massachusetts, the University of
Maine Museum of Art, Bangor, Maine, and the Courtauld Institute in London. |
