French Walnut Regence Style Canape with Chinoiserie style Red and Yellow Toile

The Regence period witnessed a movement away from large rooms and bed-chambers toward more intimate, smaller boudoirs and music rooms. The furniture of this period became more accomodating to movement from place to place. Typical of the period, this settee has a flat back (a la reine) with undulating, carved arms and legs.
